Isn't observation also experience?Library Jewelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06460917654300703097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575001999763750294.post-6773416660837842132012-01-09T15:47:12.078-08:002012-01-09T15:47:12.078-08:00I've thought about Richard Peck's quote se...I've thought about Richard Peck's quote several time since you posted this, Julie, and like Sharon and Joyce, I don't agree - at least not for me. So much of my own writing is based on recollection, remembrance, emotion, and pure imagination. Yes, even my fictional stories often require research, but they are often based on personal experiences or thoughts that aren't found in the wonderful world of library books.David LaRochellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09146141298496287697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575001999763750294.post-9332452564215152902012-01-07T11:42:13.065-08:002012-01-07T11:42:13.065-08:00I agree with Sharon. I can't write convincingly unless whatever I'm writing about somehow resonates with my own world.Joyce Sidmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02528420395072182909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575001999763750294.post-45594843465628550322012-01-06T04:40:36.111-08:002012-01-06T04:40:36.111-08:00I admire Richard Peck, but I'm not sure I enti...I admire Richard Peck, but I'm not sure I entirely agree w/the quote. I think we write from *both* observation and experience, and from *both* research and recollection. It is the experience and recollection resonating w/observation and research that gives depth to what we write.Sharon Creechhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01297551991159941966noreply@blogger.com
